History
The Lookout restaurant
”Petrin” was built and festively opened in 1906. The first owner of
this dominant building, built on the hill called Nickelkoppe at that time,
was Mr. Richard Felinghauer. Its location was chosen absolutely on purpose
because just from this place you can get such a gorgeous view of Jablonec
hollow basin with horizontal panoramic views of Jizera and Krkonose
Mountains. This building’s original purpose was a restaurant with lookout
gallery until the end of the World War II. in 1945. After the war it was
used as a home for children until the mid 60’s. Then a state-owned
enterprise concern ”Restaurace a jidelny” returned to a restaurant.
The new name was ”Petrin”. After the year 1989 in the period of privatization
the building was sold back into private ownership. The building changed
hands many times in the first few years of independence. For this reason
restaurant was shut down and whole building was left empty in 1993. The
building was neglected from 1993 to 1996. New hope for Petrin appeared in
1996 when Prague entrepreneur Mr. Evzen Hejsek bought the building in a
desolate state. Even the new owner could not start to rebuild the building
because of hazy property relationships between him and the state. In 1998
the problems were resolved. The building plans were submitted to the
council, which were accepted in May 1999, and work could finally begin.
Over many problems, complications and the reality that from the original
building remained only the shell, the reconstruction of the whole building
took just 14 months to rebuild by the new owner. In the middle of year
2000 the delicately reconstructed the building was returned back to the
inhabitants of the town and its visitors. The restaurant was reconstructed
to its former glory. The restaurant with lookout gallery was enlarged to a
new hotel capacity, night bar and open-air restaurant were also included.
