Hiking
With
its spectacular, varied scenery, the Czech Republic offers a virtually
ideal environment for hiking. There is an extraordinarily dense network of
clearly marked routes covering the entire territory, which prevents hikers
from losing their way even in the most remote corners of the country. The
most popular tourist regions include the Krkonose Mountains, the Sumava
and other border mountain ranges. Hiking enthusiasts should, however, also
make a point of exploring romantic sandstone “rock towns” or some of
the wild river valleys, fashioned, for example, by the River Dyje in
Moravia, the Vydra in the Sumava and the Strela in Western Bohemia.
Numerous marked tourist paths can also be found in
the country’s border areas, with some of them leading across the border
and continuing further inland to meet trails in
neighboring
countries.
Detailed tourist maps can be obtained from information
centers, bookshops
and small vendors throughout the country. The Czech Tourist Club prepares a range of
interesting tourist events, the most noteworthy of which are the Prague
– Prcice long-distance tourist march, the International Tourism Week
held in the Wallachian region and the Jede Kudrna okolo Brna (Kudrna
Goes Round Brno) march, a prestigious event included in the IML category.
