Apartment
house Almberg
The ski area “Mitterdorf“ has 5 modern 2-chair lifts, and 1 single
chair lift, with a total capacity of 7000 persons per hour. The
machine-groomed downhill’s have several levels of difficulties, and have
possibilities for artificial snow when necessary. A ski pass for one day
will cost 18 Euros (adults), and for 6 days it will cost 80 Euros. There
is also a popular cheap family pass available.
First, I like to apologize to those who think to have found accommodation
in the Czech Republic. The building is indeed presented as present in
South Bohemia, but is actually located in Germany, in Bavaria. This,
because the house is only 300 meters away from the Czech border (South
Bohemia), and the house has a Czech owner. Even the prices are Czech. The
house offers a high standard of accommodation, and is complete renovated
in 2009. It lies in the mountain village “Mitterfirmiansreut” or
“Mitterdorf”, only a few hundred meters away from the border. The
building lies directly down at one of the main downhill’s.
Mitterfirmiansreut (Mitterdorf) is a winter sport centre, but in the
summer it is an ideal starting point for those who like to walk, or for
those with the bicycle who like to discover the beauty of the Bavarian
forest in this border region of Germany and the Czech Republic. For guests
there are 4 separate apartments available (2x 7 beds, and 2x 5 beds). Each
apartment has a living room furnished with a TV and a kitchen corner, two
or three bedrooms, and a bathroom with shower and toilet. The building is
suitable for peaceful family holidays or group stays. The building is
located at an altitude of about 1040 meters, at the foot of the mountain
“Almberg” (1139 meters). It offers a magnificent panoramic view at the
Bohemian- and Bavarian Forest.

Location
and surroundings:
The future of Europe will not longer be seen as nationally, but as
regionally. In central Europe, the Bavarian forest together with the
Bohemian forest, are by far the largest contiguous forest, without
highways, and therefore a unique place to relax. In the national parks of
the Bavarian- and the Bohemian forest, the original diversity of flora and
fauna remains well preserved. Not for nothing, the “Association of
International Nature friends” of South Bohemia chose this area to be the
“Landscape of the year 2000”. An experience without borders under the
“Green roof of Europe” for any hiker, cyclist or winter sport lover.
You can practice sport in clean mountain air, forests, and learn new
things about the nature, such as glacial lakes, marshes, and unspoiled
valleys where rivers have their source. You can discover the cultural and
historical monuments of the region, and visit many cultural attractions.
Mitterfirmiansreut is an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to
learn something.
How to find us? It is very easy. From the airport in Prague you start on
the highway (D1) towards Brno. At Mirosovic you turn towards Benesov,
Tabor, and Ceske Budejovice (E55 / 3). In Ceske Budejovice you follow
towards Ceske Krumlov, Lipno. When you
have reached Cerna v Posumavi, you’ll cross the bridge towards
Horni Plana, Volary and Vimperk (road 39). After Volary you will have a
turn towards Germany (Freyung and Passau). Take this turn, and just after
the border you have to turn right towards Mitterfirmiansreut. When you are
there, just follow the sign with “Zentralkasse”. The house is right in
front of there. You can’t miss it.
From else where you have to concentrate on the highway between Vienna,
Linz in Austria, and Passau and Regensburg in Germany (A 3). You go
towards Passau, and from Passau you follow towards Freyung and continue
towards the border. Just before the border you will turn left towards
Mitterfirmiansreut. When you are there, just follow the sign with
“Zentralkasse”. The house is right in front of there. You can’t miss
it. Also look at “Navigation”.
Facilities
and service:
The
building is located on 1000 m2 own land. It is situated in a quiet part of

forest. The building is suitable for a quiet family vacation or for group
stays.
For our guests there are 4 separate apartments available. The largest

view of the Bohemian forest, and it is possible to make a barbecue
outside. The apartments are available all year. They are stylish, with
modern amenities. In the winter there is central heating, and there, in
the mountains, is a good signal for your mobile phone.
Sport
and recreation:
Mitterfirmiansreut
in Germany, in the Bavarian forest, lies actually exactly on the Czech
border (South Bohemia). It lies at an altitude of 1040 meters. Guests have
many choices for recreational activities in every season.
The “Three country point” – the Bavarian- and the Bohemian forest,
the core in the heart of Europe – is one of the largest and most
extensive forests of Europe.
Parts of the Bavarian forest in Germany, the Bohemian forest in the
Czech Republic, and the “Muhlviertel” in Austria, constitute a real
Jewel in this border area for any nature lover. Taste the authentic nature
of the various recreational areas, and enjoy the numerous sport and
tourism opportunities the area offers.
Almberg (1139 metres) is the main mountain of the winter ski resort
Mitterfirmiansreut. Heidel (1167 meters), along these mountain, in ancient
times, mules travelled here with materials towards the Czech republic. At
the top of the hill, you will find a tower with pavilion, where you can
find all the information about the area. It is a symbol of the region. The
view from the top towards the wide horizon, the Bavarian- and Bohemian
forest, all the way to the Alps are breathtaking.
Bizarre rock formations, created over the centuries, helped the “three
country
mountain” called “Třístoličník” to its mysterious
and legendary glory. Here, under the “Green roof of Europe” you still
find the originality of the forest, and mountains as it was in long past
days. See the idyllic form of died pieces of forest, where the remains of
the forest show typical wild meadows and overgrown ruins. You’ll find
spruces of 400 years old, mysterious mountain peat, colorful mountain
meadows with rare species of plants and animals, picturesque moorland, and
the local “Perle” river. . . .
These traditional cultural landscape in a divers environment is
really nice.
Wonderful cycling and hiking trails are waiting for you. They lead you
through idyllic hilly landscapes, wide mountain forest, gentle valley
streams, lush meadows, and original and charming landscapes. Take the
mountain “Třístoličník”, you can enjoy a wonderful view on
the top, then cross the border into the Austrian “Muhlviertel”,
Hochficht, or the “Plesne” lake in Bohemia. Whether you choose for one
of the marked cycle- or hiking trails, or just some trail in the nature
somewhere, you won’t regret it, because the unique character of this
nature, full with energy, you can find anywhere. You will be richer with
new experience.
Step in the footsteps of the ancients trade routes. The “Golden
route”, it was a web of paths who crossed the Bavarian- and Bohemian
forest, for centuries they were one of the main business trade routes.
Here in the ancient economic centre of the “Donau” mules brought
several materials and goods to the Czech Republic, like to Vimperk and
Prachatice. Along this romantic route, you still can see these old so
called “mule villages”. Information signs along the road tell the
story. A festival called “Soumarska” which has a steady place on the
calendar, is celebrated on both sides of the border.
Visit the chapel route, it leads through hilly forest, and meadow
landscape with numerous chapels and holy crosses along the road. Discover
the secrets of nature through educational paths. Walk in the footsteps of
the ancient mules. Discover the history of the local glass factory and his
production. Or just go where your legs can carry you, and enjoy the beauty
of nature.
With the arrival of the winter, the normally quiet village
Mitterfirmiansreut turns into a busy winter sport resort. The ski area
around Almberg (1139 meters) is usually full of snow from Christmas to
March. During lesser days of snow there are opportunities for artificial
snow. The area offer his visitors 5x a 2-chair-lift, and one single
chair-lift. The total capacity is 7000 persons per hour. The slopes are
machine maintained, and have several levels of difficulties.
The house Almberg is located right next to the main downhill’s. When you
are lucky with the weather, it will be difficult to keep your eyes away
from magnificent Alps, that you can see at the southern horizon. After an
extensive look, you can choose were to go down. From the top of the
Almberg you can choose three directions. The choice is between a blue
downhill, which is as wide as long, a slender blue one through the forest,
and the top downhill. That one has difficulty “red” and is called
downhill number 4. It has a new 2-chair-lift. This downhill is relatively
new, just like the 2-chair-lift. His shape is quite regular and uniform.
The area provides well prepared artificial snow during lesser days, and
mostly on the southern hills.
When there are not so many people on the downhill, you can increase
you speed of course. The first mentioned blue downhill has a peaceful
contrast. It is suitable for families with children, and for beginners. An
advanced skier would choose something else after one try. But again,
families with children will have a nice time here. The second blue
downhill leads through the forest on the northern side, where it has
contact with the lighted ski lift “Loucka”. On the map you can see
that the area has another downhill. It is located down the parking place,
and starts on the northern side of the mountain toward the stream in the
valley. This stream marks the border between Germany and the Czech
Republic. This downhill is a piece of arable land, and therefore much more
difficult then the downhill’s on the meadows. It has a wide slalom with
sharp passages. It is a wonderful challenge for any demanding skier. Of
course, the quality increases when there are not so many people. Also
concentrate on you brakes when you are down, otherwise you will be back in
the Czech Republic.
Two ski schools offer lessons for beginners and advanced, or for those who
want to retrain carving skiing or snowboarding. Within a few hours of
lessons you have sufficient basis for a graceful and safe trip from the
top down.
For the youngest participants (from 2 years) is on the sunny side of the
mountain the course “skiing for juniors”. Here the can gain their
first experience with the “magic skis”. In one part of this closed
area you’ll find 2 “magic carpets”, a mini ski lift, a carousel, and
a “warm” playhouse with toilet.
For cross country skiers are hundreds of kilometres well maintained tracks
in this three country area. Free skiing allows skiers literally to see the
mountain from “all sides”.
In this three country area leads the most famous cross country
trail of the Bavarian forest. It is called the “Bayerwaldloipe”. From
“Javor” through the national park, and via the mountain “Třístoličník”
you will have 150 kilometres of cross country tracks through beautiful and
unspoiled nature. This cross country route is designed with a maximum view
on nature, where you’ll make a real nature experience.
Around Almberg you’ll find more then 30 kilometres of cross country
tracks. Well prepared, and in several difficulties. Whether you choose the
groomed tracks, or just some fascinating tracks in the forest, it insures
in both cases the breathing of the clean air, and to forget the daily
stress.
From beginners to advanced, for families and seniors, from downhill to
cross country, the downhill’s and the cross country tracks are with
several difficulties. So, to be short, there is something for everybody.
Tips
for day trips:
A
holiday in the “three country” area, in the Bavarian- and Bohemian
forest, offers the unique opportunity to take short trips to all of the
three countries. This with the motto “Just around the corner”, such as
the “National Park”, the place “Javor”, the city of the three
rivers, the German city of “Passau”, or some trips with a little more
distant, for example München, Regensburg, or other cities in Bavaria.
In northern Austria calls the vibrant city of “Linz”, where you can
take a boat trip across the “Blue Donau”. The “Premonstratsky”
monastery “Aigen” you should not miss, and a visit to Salzburg for a
day will also not be bored.
Every day a nostalgic steam train leaves from a station called “Nove
Udoli” (New Valley), it goes from “Haidmühle” along the river
“Vltava” via Horni Plana towards Lipno.
From Bohemia you can visit the “golden city” of Prague, the famous
brewery Budvar (Budweiser) in Ceske Budejovice, or the beautifully
preserved medieval city of Cesky Krumlov. Of course, these are just some
hints of all the possibilities you might have during your vacation. The
current list has of course many more options.
